Meet Karen Abel Jepsen, Director of Canton Regional Area Health Center

The National AHEC Organization (NAO) welcomes Karen Abel Jepsen as the Center Director for the Canton Regional Area Health Education Center (CRAHEC).

As a not-for-profit corporation located at Kent State University Stark Campus, CRAHEC develops training opportunities for health professionals and students under the AHEC Program Office at NEOMED. Karen will spearhead the AHEC Scholar's Program for eight counties:

  • Ashland,
  • Carroll,
  • Crawford,
  • Holmes,
  • Richland,
  • Stark,
  • Tuscarawas and
  • Wayne.

How long have you been at your center?
12 weeks
 
Educational background:
BA in Sociology and Women's Studies from Duke University I am a Prevention Consultant (OCPC)

Tell us about your work experience, especially if it helped prepare you for your AHEC role.
I have worked extensively for public and private primary and secondary schools in our community providing programming and training so know my way around school systems and am excited to be on a college campus with learners of all ages!

What excites you about AHEC?
I'm so new I'm still learning!

What are your favorite things to do outside AHEC?
I am a Master Recycler and enjoy giving new life to old things as well as helping things grow so my hands are always dirty!
