As the NEOMED Class of 2026 starts their journey, we wanted to learn more about students from this group. We invited them to share their stories. Here is one response:
Meet first-year pharmacy student Megan Reynold from Grafton, Ohio. Megan studied biology at the University of Akron.
What compelled you to pursue a degree in health care?
I decided to pursue health care after shadowing my mentor in the emergency department when I was 14. I shadowed and worked in that same ER until COVID hit, when all the students were let go due to safety concerns.
What specific career do you hope to pursue?
I currently work in nuclear pharmacy, so I could definitely see myself pursing nuclear med, but I am also interested in vet pharmacy, surgical pharmacy, and emergency med pharm of course!
Why did you choose NEOMED?
I chose NEOMED because I grew into the person I am today because of them. From Brain Bees and MEDCAMP, I participated in every single opportunity I could at NEOMED. It helped me decide my career path and gave me many opportunities early on. NEOMED has always been my home.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years (when I’m not working) I hope to be camping in our RV with my husband, kiddos and puppers or fishing on our boat. I would also love to be sitting by my pool sipping on wine while our kids do cannon balls off the diving board.
My significant other and I love traveling and the outdoors so that will be a must as well! I will live a happy and comfortable lifestyle with the ones I love and cherish the work it took to get there!
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was little, I wanted to be an Olympic gymnast. However, I quickly found a love for health care. I was never 100% sure on what I wanted to become. An M.D., Pharm.D., PA-C, AA…. But I found a love and passion for pharmacy and decided to pursue that field
What is your favorite thing to eat and why?
As for my favorite thing to eat, I am a sucker for some mango! Mango is especially delicious if you’re visiting Mexico. I also LOVE donuts. I am the donut queen. I’m also a HUGE fan of the stir fry my boyfriend makes me. I think I’ve had it every day for lunch for like three weeks, LOL.
What book or movie are you currently recommending to friends? Why?
For a book, or movie, I would recommend would have to be The Great Gatsby. It has to be one of my favorites, and although most have probably witnessed or read the story, it’s worth it.
You are handed a plane ticket to anywhere in the world. Where are you going? Why?
If I was given a plane ticket, my boyfriend and I would be headed to Japan! It’s on our bucket list and has been decided to be our future honeymoon destination. I mean, have you seen the food there?
What’s your hype song? Why?
My hype song is hilarious, in my opinion. The YMCA will get me hype EVERYTIME.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I’m not sure what people would be surprised to know about me. Maybe that I was an EMT!
