Messamore discusses ADHD with the BBC

The number of adults diagnosed with ADHD has increase in recent years In the U.K. and other countries. With that increase, the need for information and appropriate treatment has also grown.

Issues related to an adult diagnosis of ADHD were recently spotlighted by the BBC.

Erik Messamore, M.D., Ph.D. associate professor of psychiatry, shared his concerns for possible overdiagnosis of the disorder in an interview with the BBC.

"Your lack of attention, or your daydreaming, or your impulsivity, may be your body's/brain's way of trying to get you to live at a human scale," Dr. Messamore said in the interview, noting that the appearance of ADHD-like symptoms could be a side effect of modern living rather than a clinical disorder.
