As cases of monkeypox are being reported across Ohio and the U.S., many are beginning to seek information regarding the rare disease that is caused by infection with the monkeypox virus. Please know that NEOMED’s Department of Environmental Health and Safety works closely with the Portage County Health Department (PCHD) and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), and we are following the incidence of monkeypox in our region and beyond.

While we will provide you with updates as they become necessary, we encourage you to proactively visit the monkeypox FAQ at the Ohio Department of Health website for the latest information, including what to do in the event you suspect you contracted it.

Your safety and wellness are our first priorities. Please contact your health care provider rather than the NEOMED Department of Environmental Health and Safety if you have symptoms such as a rash (as described in the FAQ) or have had close contact with someone who you suspect may have monkeypox.

NEOMED strives to ensure our campus environment is a safe place for all students, employees and visitors.

Thank you for your understanding.

- Jesse Zampedro, assistant director, Environmental Health and Safety, Campus Operations
