National leader in PM&R is the next VITALS speaker

John Cianca, M.D., president, American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R), joins VITALS | Visionary Health Leadership in Action at noon, Thursday, March 12, via Zoom.

VITALS is NEOMED's health leadership speaker series presented with University Hospitals.

Dr. Cianca will share his insights on " Practice and Leadership in PM&R."

ABOUT JOHN CIANCA, M.D.

Dr. Cianca is a physiatrist in Houston, Texas. He founded his practice, the Human Performance Center, in 1994. His practice is based on sports medicine treatment principles, and he utilizes traditional western medicine and acupuncture. Musculoskeletal ultrasound, biomechanics and running medicine are his primary clinical interests. He has developed and maintained a cash practice since 2004 which allows him to treat patients with sufficient time and energy to maximize his clinical effectiveness and his devotion to teaching his patients how to enable their own recovery.

Dr. Cianca served as full-time faculty at the Baylor College of Medicine for 11 years. He continues to teach residents and fellows as an adjunct associate professor in the departments of PM&R for the Baylor College of Medicine and University of Texas Health Science Center.

Dr. Cianca has authored numerous abstracts, articles and book chapters. He also authored an award-winning ultrasound atlas: Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Cross-Sectional Anatomy.

He has been involved in the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR) for many years in a variety of roles, including service on the Medical Education Committee for 11 years with the last four as chair. He has been a member of the AAPM&R Board of Governors since 2019 is currently the president.
