NEOMED appoints Matthew Moorman as Vice President for Academic Expansion and Regional Campus Development

We are pleased to welcome Matthew Moorman, M.D., M.B.A., FACS, FAWM, FCCM, to the NEOMED team in the new role of Vice President for Academic Expansion and Regional Campus Development.

In this role, Dr. Moorman will lead the development of new and expanded academic and research programs across Ohio, with a focus on building strategic partnerships with health systems, universities and community stakeholders in regions beyond NEOMED’s current geographic footprint. These efforts will create new opportunities in clinical education, research and workforce development while expanding NEOMED’s impact across the state.

Dr. Moorman brings an outstanding and varied career to this new role. Prior to joining NEOMED, he served as system chief of trauma and acute care surgery at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, where he continues to practice as a trauma surgeon. He is also an adjunct instructor of biomedical engineering at the Case School of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University and the founding program director of the University Hospitals Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care. In 2022, he was honored as a University Hospitals Distinguished Surgeon.

Dr. Moorman has been a member of the NEOMED community as professor and chair of surgery in the College of Medicine since 2023. He will continue in that role while serving as vice president for academic expansion and regional campus development.

Before entering healthcare, Dr. Moorman served as a United States Air Force F-16C pilot. During more than 35 years of military service, he was deployed multiple times and participated in combat flying operations in the Middle East, including operations following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. He retired from active military service in 2024 at the rank of Colonel.

Dr. Moorman earned his medical degree from The Ohio State University and completed residency training at Mount Carmel Health in Columbus, Ohio. He subsequently completed fellowships in Surgical Critical Care at the University of Cincinnati and Medical Education at Cleveland Clinic. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Cincinnati and a master’s degree in business administration from Auburn University.
