NEOMED hosts medical education event

Northeast Ohio Medical University hosted more than 200 pre-med students from across the state during Ohio Medical Education Day, held in the NEW Center on Oct. 14.

OMED is an annual conference intended specifically for pre-med students who are not currently in the application cycle. During the day-long program, students learned the process for applying to medical school, various pathways available, tips for interviewing and more, including sessions from James Barrett, senior executive director, strategic enrollment initiatives, and Douglas Moses, M.D., associate dean for admissions and student affairs, College of Medicine, on “What to do and how to do it” and Greg Koman-Cronauer, program coordinator, Office of Graduate Education, on “Life in medical school.”

Attendees were welcomed by C. Forrest Faison III, M.D., provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, who delivered a morning keynote address. Dr. Faison challenged attendees to ask themselves “what is the purpose of your life?”

He also noted the importance of establish a relationship of trust with patients.

“In their deepest, darkest hours they will place something in your hands, and that is trust,” he said. “That is an honorable trust that you will be given every day and that you must earn every day.”
