NEOMED is a standout at Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacy Conference

The College of Pharmacy had a strong showing at the Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacy Annual Meeting and Residency Showcase held at the end of October in Columbus.

The conference provides pharmacy faculty and students with quality continuing education programming, a residency showcase, exhibits, presentation of this year’s awards for excellence in practice and the opportunity to network.

Clinical Skills Competitors

  • Nicholas Wagner and Samah Abhallah, who will represent the College of Pharmacy in the national skills competition at the 2023 ASHP Midyear Meeting in December.

Nic shared his thoughts on the competition:

I was very nervous before the competition began, but I was warmed up from just having finished competing in the Jeopardy-style competition. I think it got our brains working, allowing me and my partner, Samah Abdallah, to be ready for whatever the clinical case was. When we ended up getting the case, I was excited to know that it was a topic that I was familiar with, and then it came down to getting all of our thoughts organized and written down so that we could present an effective patient-care plan to the judges. I will say that the state-level competition is much faster-paced than the local and national levels. Samah and I had to work very quickly to ensure we had adequate recommendations for the patient, as the preparation time was about 25% of the time given in the other competitions. It helped us learn to work quickly and efficiently together, and we wasted no time getting to work. After presenting our case to the judges, we felt that we answered their follow-up questions very well, and we were confident that we provided realistic and beneficial recommendations for this fake patient's care. While we came in second place, I think that the competition prepared us well to work effectively together when we get to the national competition at ASHP Midyear. I am so excited about that competition, and I hope to represent NEOMED and Ohio well!
