Congratulations to members of the laboratory of Fayez Safadi, Ph.D., professor of anatomy and neurobiology, on their presentations at the 2022 Annual Meeting for the Orthopaedic Research Society, held live in Tampa, Florida, February 4-8.

Dr. Safadi presented “Orthobiologics for Spinal Fusion, GPN Therapeutics Inc.” in the Business Innovation Competition. His entry in the highly competitive field was chosen among start-up companies with technologies focused on innovative solutions for better health outcomes for orthopaedics. 

Hope Ball, Ph.D., a research scientist from Dr. Safadi’s lab, gave a podium presentation titled “miRNA-150 Targets GPNMB and Increases Inflammation in a Post-traumatic Osteoarthritis Model.” Graduate students Ernesto Solorzano-Zepeda and Gabrielle Robinson presented posters titled “Lymphatic Secretome Negatively Regulates Bone Cell Differentiation and Function” and “The Anabolic Responses of High Aerobic Capacity on Bone Homeostasis,” respectively.

In addition, College of Medicine students Trinity Samson and Andrew Alejo presented posters titled “Osteoactivin Induces Bone Regeneration in a Spinal Fusion Osteoporotic Rat Model” and “The Anti-inflammatory Properties L-Plastin Mediates in the Pathogenesis of Osteoarthritis,” respectively.
