NEOMED students recognized at AIPNO event
Several College of Medicine students presented at the 41st Association of Indian Physicians of Northern Ohio (AIPNO) Gala and Research Showcase on Oct. 26, collaborating with students from across the state to present their research in clinical and basic research categories. Submitted abstracts were evaluated by a panel of interdisciplinary experts and assessed by judges across specialties.
Many of the students worked with the chairman of the AIPNO Board of Trustees and NEOMED M4 director, Dr. Rupesh Raina, to present their research at the conference.

In addition to the scholarly presentations, two NEOMED students were recognized with awards during the event. Jack Hu (M4), above, received the prestigious Medical Student Scholarship Award honoring his scholastic and research achievements. Sonum Jagetia (M3) and Jared Hinton (M3) received top Clinical Research Awards. Clare Rigney (M4), top, was honored as the recipient of the Global Health Award.
Student presentations and posters included:
- Haziq Rabbani (M1) presented a paper, titled “Burden of disease and risk analysis of stroke incidence in adult intensive care unit dialysis patients.”
- Sanat Subhash (M1) presented a poster, titled “Depression and acute kidney injury outcomes in adult patients.”
- Nanak Dhillon (M2) presented a paper, titled “AKI post-spine surgery in pediatric patients.”

Nallapaneni received mentoring from Dr. Rachel Pope in preparing the presentation.
Describing his poster presentation experience, first-year student Haziq Rabbani wrote: “It was such a great experience to present at AIPNO. I am very proud that I was given the opportunity to present my research at NEOMED with Dr. Raina and my peer Sanat Subhash at such a prestigious conference. I got to meet so many other students from many different backgrounds, and I especially learned so much from all the wonderful doctors in attendance.”
Students had valuable opportunities to network with leading physicians. Prominent physician leaders featured at the event included Dr. Cliff Megerian, CEO of University Hospitals Health System; Dr. Neil Smith, president of the Western Region, Cleveland Clinic; Dr. Michael Forbes, chief academic officer at Akron Children’s Hospital; and Dr. Lina Mehta, associate dean for admissions at Case Western Reserve University.
Congratulations to these students and their mentors for representing NEOMED at the highest level!
