NEOMED Students running for a great cause: Results!
Three NEOMED second-year medical students successfully completed the 75-mile Tuscazoar Endurance race in Tuscarawas County, held on August 31.
Hunter Bonfiglio, Nick Sciarretti and Alex Keith trained for the challenging course this summer, often running together on the NEOMED campus.
Through their efforts, the friends were able to raise $57,635 for Parkinson’s disease research at NEOMED. More than 90 generous donors, individuals and corporations made contributions to the NEOMED Foundation in support of their cause.

As a team, Bonfiglio, Sciarretti and Keith placed first in their age group, finishing in about 20 hours.
All of the students say they are inspired by Sara Whittingham, M.D., a University clinical faculty member and wife of NEOMED President John Langell, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., M.B.A.
Dr. Whittingham manages her Parkinson’s disease diagnosis with an extraordinary commitment to exercise, competing in ultramarathons throughout the year.
Studies have shown that moderate-to-vigorous exercise slows the progression of Parkinson’s.
Dr. Langell and Dr. Whittingham stopped by the race to cheer on the NEOMED team!
