Newlyweds and former NEOMED sweethearts Rahul Damania (’16) and Khooshali Shah (’19) celebrated their recent nuptials with fellow graduates and some faculty members.
“We got married on July 3, 2022, at Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From NEOMED to NEO-WED! We were lucky to have many NEOMED alumni attend, as well as numerous faculty members and trustees. In fact, the majority of my groomsmen and Khooshali’s bridesmaids are also NEOMED grads, current students and pharmacy faculty.
“The bonds we established at NEOMED have been lifelong for us!” he says.
Rahul recalls how he and Khooshali met: “We met at Summa Hospital. I was on my OB-GYN third-year clerkship while Khooshali was completing clinical research. We met about a year prior to dating.”
The couple got engaged March 9, 2019, but had an unplanned three-year lapse between the engagement and wedding date due to COVID-19. “We had to push back our wedding twice!” Rahul recalls.
So where are they now?
Rahul completed a Pediatric Critical Care fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and recently took a position as a Pediatric ICU attending at Cleveland Clinic Children’s. Khooshali is a current Obstetrics and Gynecology PGY-3 resident at Crozer Health, which is affiliated with the Drexel University College of Medicine near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
“I have been fortunate to also continue to engage with the NEOMED student body as I have taken on the position of a USMLE [U.S. Medical Licensing Examination] instructor and tutor for the URM cohort as well as the Step Up Program for M2 preparation through Student Affairs. I hold bi-weekly review sessions via Zoom!” says Rahul, who also was recently appointed to the NEOMED Alumni Association Board of Directors.
