Hello from NEOMED’s Care Team!
As we begin a new academic year, we wanted to send a reminder to the campus community about our team.
The Care Team is a multi-disciplinary, campus-wide network of resources to encourage mental health, well-being and help-seeking throughout the campus community. The Care Team focuses on prevention, early intervention and provision of support services for individuals in the NEOMED community experiencing distress or engaging in harmful or disruptive behaviors.
The Care Team is a resource and referral source for anyone at NEOMED to communicate their concern about an emerging situation involving an individual faculty, staff, student or guest’s behavior that is causing concern about the safety of that individual and/or others in the University community -- but has not escalated to an emergency. This includes not only single incidents, but also patterns of behavior.
Randon Welton, M.D., The Margaret Clark Morgan Chair of Psychiatry and Kali A. Williams, director of Public Safety and chief of the NEOMED Police Department, are co-leaders of the Care Team, which consists of nearly a dozen other leaders across the University. They are available to virtually meet with your department or student group or attend meetings to introduce the team, provide an explanation of what they do, and answer any questions regarding team operations. Additional resources and guides are also available on the Care Team website.
Submit a referral form if you or someone you know is in need of help. If you’re not sure what to do but think it might be a good idea to do so, don’t delay, submit a referral or seek assistance now. The Care Team encourages referrals whenever there is doubt. However, do not use the referral form for situations that present an imminent risk of harm. If the situation is an emergency, call 911.
