NEOvations Bench to Bedside competition preview

Students are making final preparations for the Third Annual NEOvations Bench to Bedside Competition, set for Thursday, Sept. 21, at 4 p.m. Below, learn more about some of the projects that will be presented, then stop by the event in the Jay A. Gershen Atrium this Thursday. Refreshments will be served, so please be sure to register.

Dream AI: An innovative machine-learning approach to sleep apnea screening. The team is comprised of three NEOMED students and an engineer from Georgia Technical Institute.

Tiny Eye Tech: A novel device to treat pediatric retinopathy in premature infants. The team is comprised of a NEOMED student and two biomedical engineers from the University of Akron. They are advised by Richard Hertle, M.D., a pediatric ophthalmologist at Akron Children’s Hospital.

OsTeoGaMH: An innovative thermoresponsive drug-delivery method to treat bone and skeletal disorders. The team is comprised of a biomedical sciences Ph.D. candidate and a technician in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department. The team is advised by chair Moses Oyewumi, Ph.D.

MagWire: An innovative surgical solution to retain guidewire central line placements. The team is comprised of four NEOMED medicine students and is advised by Dr. Daniel Vazquez, a critical care surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic.
