Fourth-year medicine student, Nupur Goel, has started a new medical podcast show called "Neurophilia." The purpose of this show is to combat the growing issue of neurophobia or “fear of clinical neurology amongst medical students and resident doctors” in the medical community.
Goel has always had a passion for neuroscience and public speaking and was compelled to start this podcast to share her love of the subject with others. She hopes to inspire other medical students to pursue a career in neurology and educate the public about the latest developments in the field.
The show is co-hosted by Dr. Blake Buletko, a 2012 alumnus of NEOEMD. He is a vascular neurologist and currently serves as the program director of adult neurology at the Cleveland Clinic. In each episode, Goel and Dr. Buletko discuss the relationship between neurology and other fields of medicine, such as cardiology, dermatology, neurosurgery and psychiatry. The latest episode “Neurology and Medicine” featured NEOMED faculty members Dr. Austin Fredrickson and Dr. Deborah Plate.
"Neurology is a fascinating and complex field; I'm excited to share my passion with others through this podcast," Goel said. "I hope that we can inspire the next generation of neurologists and contribute to the advancement of this important field."
Future episodes of Neurophilia will cover a wide range of fields related to neurology, including infectious disease, obstetrics and gynecology, and palliative care.
Listeners can access the show on popular podcast platforms, such as Apple Podcasts and Spotify, as well as YouTube.
"I'm thrilled to see the positive response to Neurophilia so far," Goel said. “It is only the beginning.”
Goel will be completing her Adult Neurology Residency Training at Mass General Brigham-Harvard in Boston, starting in July 2023.
