New assistant dean for admissions in College of Pharmacy
As the first assistant dean for admissions for the College of Pharmacy, Michael Mueller, Ph.D., will be “the face of recruiting” for the College. Since joining NEOMED in August, he has been working on developing relationships with partner schools in Ohio to attract the best applicants, and fostering relationships with accepted students to make sure that NEOMED remains their top choice.
In addition, Dr. Mueller serves as director of student success and associate professor of pharmacy practice for the College.
A native of Clearwater, Florida, Dr. Mueller came to NEOMED from High Point University in North Carolina where he was associate dean of student and professional affairs.
He shared more about himself and his new role with The Pulse:
What led you to NEOMED?
I really love the admissions process in the world of pharmacy and helping students realize their dream of becoming a health care professional. My role here at NEOMED is brand new so I get to put my own spin on things while working on a really great team.
What do you hope to accomplish in your new role?
I hope to continue to build strong relationships with partner schools in the area and continue to identify and bring in strong students who can really help push the profession of pharmacy forward.
What inspired you to work in your profession?
My dad was a pharmacist, so pharmacy has always been a part of my life. My Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences [from the University of Florida] had two real paths and I chose the academia route. It is so satisfying watching students turn into professionals.
What’s one thing that people are surprised to know about you?
I was born, raised and lived in Florida up until a few years ago. I keep moving farther north. No regrets about moving, just missing family. Of course we’ll see after my first real winter!
Anything else the campus community should know about you or your role?
For me a big part of getting students to join our program is selling them on the campus experience we have to offer. I just need everyone to be as friendly as can be with a wave, a smile and a hello.
