New executive medical director for CAA program
Anesthesiologist Ahmed M. Darwish, M.D., of University Hospitals has been appointed executive medical director for the NEOMED certified anesthesiologist assistant (CAA) program.
Dr. Darwish will work with the program director, Nate Flath, CAA, to provide leadership and direction for the academic and clinical education of future CAAs in the Master of Medical Science in Anesthesia program, with the goal of educating the students to provide competent and appropriate care for patients.
Dr. Darwish is vice chair of education and division chief of critical care medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center / CWRU School of Medicine in Cleveland. In those roles, he helped develop the teaching mission of the Department of Anesthesiology and developed a new fellowship for Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at University Hospitals accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), among other achievements.
“Throughout my career, I have managed to create a multidisciplinary approach to practicing medicine, enhancing the patient experience and delivering patient-centered care,” Dr. Darwish noted following his appointment. “My goal has always been to provide the best clinical care, teach our juniors and help our community.”
