New lactation room

Construction was recently completed on a new lactation room, F120, that is now open for use. The space is located behind F118, near the restrooms and Integrative Medical Sciences offices.
“This project all started because of student, faculty and staff feedback collected primarily in the College of Pharmacy,” said Molly O’Malley, associate director of diversity, equity and inclusion and Title IX coordinator. “Jackie Boyle [assistant dean for Student Success in the College and associate professor of pharmacy practice] was the driving force for getting a lactation space that was near the College of Pharmacy offices and student lecture halls after it was realized that current spaces were too far for students to use between classes.”
The new space was funded through Strategic Initiative Funds, with an SIF proposal submitted by O’Malley and Dr. Boyle.
“But Patti Pfeifer was the creative designer, and the room looks fantastic because of her!” O’Malley said. “Anissa Strickland helped consult on the design of the room as well.”
The room consists of a comfortable chair, a small refrigerator and a smart TV so students can Zoom into classes during the time they are using the space.
Faculty, staff and students are all able to use this lactation space.
