Dr. German, who serves as a professor of Anatomy and Neurobiology, was appointed interim vice president of research. Dr. German is widely known as a mentor to both aspiring and current researchers. She earned her Master of Science degree in geology at the University of Rochester before going on to earn a Ph.D. in biology from Harvard University.
The University also recently appointed Dr. Aultman to interim dean of the College of Graduate Studies. She currently serves several roles at NEOMED, including vice dean of the College of Graduate Studies, professor of Family and Community Medicine, and director of the Medical Ethics and Humanities program. Dr. Aultman earned her master’s degree in bioethics from Case Western Reserve University and Ph.D. in philosophy with a concentration in medical ethics and cognitive science from Michigan State University. She also previously served as chair of the Institutional Review Board, which oversees research conducted at NEOMED that uses human participants.
Steven Schmidt, Ph.D., previously held the dual role of dean of the College of Graduate Studies and vice president of Research prior to his retirement in July. Moving forward, both positions will be individual full-time roles.
“Drs. German and Aultman have been amazing members of the Executive Management Team and have really hit the ground running in their interim roles,” said President John Langell, M.D., Ph.D.
