Night at the Akron Art Museum

On Wednesday, March 27, the Creatives in Medicine (CiM) group hosted its second annual Night at the Akron Art Museum event. In collaboration with the Dermatology Interest Group, Creatives in Medicine invited NEOMED students and faculty to a night of reflection on how medicine and art inspire one another.

Akron Art Museum Curator, Jeffrey Katzin, provided NEOMED with an exclusive night tour of the museum. Dr. Mostow, Chair of Dermatology at the Department of Internal Medicine, facilitated conversations inspired by selected artwork at the Akron Art Museum. “What do you see?” inspired a chain of discussions that provided insight into the diversity of thought within our medical community. Attendees - faculty, students, amateurs, experienced artists, and curious minds - socialized over refreshments from Akron’s Mustard and Seed Cafe while enjoying the beautiful architectural innovation of the John S. and James L. Knight Building.

NEOMED’s Creatives in Medicine was founded to breathe life into the intersection of medicine and art. This annual event creates an opportunity to train medical students to see beyond the surface, employ empathy in critical thinking, search for context, and allow other perspectives to inspire their methods. The Creatives in Medicine team invites everyone to explore all the ways in which art can make us better physicians – join CiM on CampusGroups to stay informed on future announcements and opportunities.
