Optimizing Banner student accounts-receivable processes to enhance automation and service

In support of the advancement of the 2030 Strategic Plan, University eadership has awarded Strategic Initiative Funding (SIF) to support Optimizing Processes and Automation within the Banner Student Accounts Receivable Process, a proposal submitted by Kristen Cope, Dixie Weisgarber and Katherine Miranda.

Building a More Efficient and Accountable Financial Experience

This project will review and assess current Banner workflows, many of which have not been comprehensively evaluated since 2002. As NEOMED has grown into a multi-college institution, student billing and receivable processes have increased in complexity, making this review both timely and strategic.

The evaluation will focus on enhancing automation and streamlining processes across:

  • Student account setup, maintenance and course fee configuration
  • Fee assessment, payment processing, reconciliation and refunds
  • Holds, collections management, and related reporting and auditing tools
  • Integration with third-party systems, including Transact

This initiative will evaluate and modernize Banner student accounts receivable and billing processes to improve efficiency, automation and overall experience.

Defining Success Through Measurable Process Improvements

Progress will be measured through targeted operational improvements, including:

  • Automating the release of 300+ seat deposits in alignment with fee assessment
  • Automating the review and release of 50+ paid student holds per semester
  • Reducing cohort fee assessment processing time from one hour to 30 minutes

Success will also be reflected in reduced back-and-forth communication between students, the Registrar and the Bursar’s Office, creating a more seamless, student-centered financial experience.
