Our Cultures, Our Community: Ahmad Mohamed

Seeing the Lebanese flag every day at NEOMED inspires me to be like my mother, who is the most determined person that I know.

At a young age I watched her overcome breast cancer. She followed that up by obtaining a bachelor of science degree at the University of Toledo as a 4.0 student. I even remember watching my mother use a dictionary while she studied because English is not her first language.

Like my mother, I am a Muslim. We honor our religion by abstaining from pork, alcohol and even gossip. It's an integral aspect of my everyday life, from five daily prayers, to reading the English translation of the Quran and watching religious lectures on YouTube. I learned from my mother to rely on God when times are challenging.
