Perspective from the Virtuous Healer Honor Society: Henyah Dardir
As the nomination cycle for the Virtuous Healer Honor Society opens this month, current members share their reflections on being involved in VHHS.
Get to know VHHS student member, Henyah Dardir, M4!
What is VHHS?
VHHS is an honor society that recognizes a group of students that have dedicated time and energy to bringing altruism, compassion, curiosity, generosity, humility, justice, and moral imagination into the medical world. We are all students who came into medicine with the goal of bringing humility into our practices and have spent the last four years demonstrating that through our actions on campus.
How did you hear about VHHS?
My first exposure to VHHS was as a third-year medical student wanting to nominate peers who I felt were extremely dedicated to the traits that VHHS signifies. As someone really active in our NEOMED community in many different ways, I decided to apply when I was nominated. I wanted to show that putting in time to create a community was important to being a medical professional. I hoped that I would inspire other students to be reliable and responsible when selected to be an executive board member for student organizations on campus and show that your work as a medical student can make a difference in the well-being of our community!
What is your favorite part about being a VHHS member?
My favorite part about being a member is being supported by amazing individuals who are willing to come together to create something bigger than ourselves. Being in a group with like-minded individuals makes me optimistic about what we can accomplish this year.
How does it help you as a student?
It has helped me by opening up new community service experiences that I wouldn't have known about previously! It also has brought us all together to come up with creative projects that help the people around us.
How can students join VHHS?
Students nominated by faculty and peers are invited to apply by highlighting their community outreach during medical school and how their values align with VHHS. Applications are holistically reviewed by students and VHHS faculty. If you feel like you give a lot to the community I encourage you to apply!
