What is VHHS?

VHHS is a community of medical professionals who strive to uphold the values of altruism, compassion, curiosity, generosity, humility, justice, and moral imagination. Together, we aim to model and promote the qualities that define a truly virtuous healer in the hospital and beyond.

How did you hear about VHHS?

I first learned about VHHS through another student organization during a collaboration for the Teddy Care Clinic. The event was a wonderful experience that made a meaningful difference in the local community, and it gave me a great impression of VHHS’s mission and impact.

What is your favorite part of being a VHHS member?

My favorite part of being a VHHS member is the sense of community and shared purpose. It’s inspiring to connect with peers who are equally dedicated to growing not only as skilled clinicians but also as compassionate and reflective healers.

How does being a VHHS member help you as a student?

VHHS has allowed me to engage with others in the same stage of training who are equally passionate about improving the world around them. Having this network of like-minded individuals fosters deep discussions, personal growth, and a sense of purpose in both my studies and my approach to patient care.

How can students join VHHS?

M3 students may be nominated by both a faculty member and a peer who believe they exemplify the virtues of a compassionate healer. Once nominated, students are invited to apply. The application process is blinded and reviewed holistically, with the goal of identifying medical students who not only seek to cure but also to truly care for their patients.
