Pharmacy Student Ambassadors offer words of advice to Class of 2028
As orientation begins for first-year students in the College of Pharmacy, Student Ambassadors from the College offered words of wisdom for the incoming Class of 2028:
Karlton Cherry, P2:
“Congratulations, you've worked extremely hard to get to this point and you belong here! When you are facing obstacles, don't hesitate to ask questions or advocate for yourself.
“Most importantly, remember you can achieve anything if you are disciplined and dedicated.”
Joselyn Crihfield, P3:
“Make sure to schedule in daily downtime. We have a lot of material to learn, so it’s important to take the time to keep ourselves healthy, physically and mentally.”
Muhammad Farooqui, P3:
"Be proud of your unique experiences [leading] to pharmacy school. Seeing NEOMED through diverse perspectives will bring forth multiple fruitful opportunities during your P1 year."
Tailyn Houston, P3:
“It’s tempting to say ‘yes’ to every opportunity, but don’t be afraid to set boundaries. It’s far better to excel in a few key areas than to stretch yourself too thin and do many things poorly. Prioritize quality over quantity.
“Also, authenticity and kindness go a long way. Be yourself, show interest in others and be willing to help when you can.”
Makenna Proy, P2:
“Never hesitate to ask for help. The staff, professors and your peers are valuable resources to aid in your success; use them! If they can't personally help, they will point you in the right direction.”
Marissa Rivera, P2:
“The first step to success at NEOMED is to believe in yourself. You belong here and you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Stay focused on your goals, and success will follow.”
Kerstan Schwartz, P2:
“Don't be afraid to take opportunities outside your comfort zone. This journey is YOURS! You have the power to shape it how you want to. If at any time you feel confused or lost, don't hesitate to reach out to your peers for guidance and advice. We all want you to succeed. Remember... We're all in this together!”
Laila Terkawi, P2:
“NEOMED offers a variety of services to make sure you succeed! Mistakes are meant to be made, but through them we learn and grow! We are not defined by our mistakes, but by how we overcome them.”
What is a student ambassador?
Student Ambassadors work with prospective students by serving as mentors in the Pre-Pharmacy Club (undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in pharmacy); participate in Admission programs such as Discovery Days by sitting on student panels and conducting campus tours; and providing shadowing experiences.
