Phi Lambda Sigma celebrates 2025–2026 induction ceremony at NEOMED

NEOMED’s College of Pharmacy Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS) Gamma Phi Chapter celebrated its 2025–2026 Induction Ceremony by welcoming new student leaders, as well as faculty and honorary members, into the national pharmacy leadership society. The evening highlighted the organization’s mission to recognize and foster leadership in pharmacy, with Vice President Kaylee Ray emphasizing the chapter’s ongoing commitment to developing students through programming and identifying those dedicated to professional growth and advocacy.

Keynote speaker Dr. Joe Marchiano, assistant professor of pharmacy practice and clinical lead pharmacist in geriatrics at Summa Health, shared insights on leadership, patient-centered care, and advocacy, drawing from his work optimizing medication use in older adults and preparing future pharmacists to navigate complex patient needs.

The ceremony recognized Dr. Erik Wasowski, assistant professor of pharmacy practice and clinical pharmacy specialist in critical care at Cleveland Clinic Euclid Hospital, as the faculty inductee for his dedication to interprofessional education and student mentorship. Katelin Dillon-Sekoulopoulos, curriculum coordinator in NEOMED’s College of Pharmacy Office of Education, was honored as the honorary inductee for her contributions to curriculum development and student success.

New student members from the Classes of 2026 through 2029 were inducted based on demonstrated leadership across academic, professional, and community settings, including involvement in organizations, internships, research, peer tutoring, and advocacy. Inductees participated in the Phi Lambda Sigma oath and a candle-lighting ceremony symbolizing their shared commitment to leadership, ethics, and service.

Additional recognition included Dr. Kirolos Zakhary, a PGY1 pharmacy resident at AxessPointe Community Health Centers, who was named Chapter Alumni Member of the Year for his dedication to patient-centered care and community health, and Lauren Ashton, a fourth-year Pharm.D. student, who received Chapter Member of the Year for her leadership within NEOMED and national pharmacy organizations and her contributions to PLS.

The ceremony also marked the installation of the 2026–2027 executive board:

  • Treasurer: Juliana Michael 

Each officer reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the mission of Phi Lambda Sigma and supporting leadership development within the College of Pharmacy.
