Since March, NEOMED has worked with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank to distribute food from a monthly outdoor pop-up pantry located behind the Library Depot on campus. A record number of families have been served during the distributions compared to other sites, with 60 to 98 families served each month.
The collaboration between Student Services and the Foodbank, which was scheduled to run through August, has been extended to January 2023.
Community members in need are invited to visit the drive-up food pantry from noon to 2 p.m. on the fourth Monday of every month through January 23, 2023. Members of a variety of student organizations at NEOMED help to distribute the food each month and can email studentservices@neomed.edu to volunteer.
Guests who are picking up food are directed to enter campus via Loretta Drive and to remain in their vehicles while students place the groceries in their cars. Signs are posted on pantry days to mark the routes and help other drivers avoid traffic associated with the pickup area.
