New federal regulations prompt required research security training at NEOMED

The federal government has increased its focus on disclosing affiliations, financial support and other resources available to university researchers applying for federal funds due to increased attention from foreign influence and research security risks. Federal sponsors now aim to ensure there is no overlap in budgets, research activities or professional commitments, leading to updated regulations on research security and disclosure.

To address the requirements of the new regulations, NEOMED is requiring that every key personnel included on grants for extramural funding complete the Research Security Advanced Refresher course in CITI. This course should be completed before any federal reports or proposals are submitted to ensure that all faculty and staff completing the reports or preparing proposal documents are aware of the disclosure requirements and taking adequate precautions in securing data.

The CITI system can be accessed here and select “My Courses” at the top of the page after logging in.

Select “View Courses” for Northeast Ohio Medical University:

Scroll to the bottom and select “Add a Course”:

Scroll through the course options and at question 12, select “Research Security Advanced Refresher.” You will likely have to answer the other questions as “Not at this time.”

Once you have added the course, you can “Start Now” to complete the eight modules. Completion of the eight modules will take about 2.5 hours.

Confirmation that the course was completed will be required prior to submission of federal reports and proposals.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
