Safety Tip: Pedestrian Safety

Everyone is a pedestrian and NEOMED is a great place to walk.  Annually over 67,000 pedestrians are injured on our nation’s roadways, and we do not want to be part of this statistic. NPD recommends the following ways to stay safe as the weather gets nicer (most of which are also laws).

  • Always walk facing traffic so you can see any potential vehicular threats.
  • Walk as close to the road edge as possible and avoid groups walking side by side that obstruct traffic.
  • Always cross the street using crosswalks, or cross at intersections.
  • Use caution when walking past our many parking lot entrances and intersections.
  • If listening to music or using earbuds/headphones make sure the volume is low enough for you to hear what is going on around you.

None of our officers want to be a part of the negative consequences of failing to follow these safety tips which could include traffic tickets, injuries, or even death. Help us keep everyone safe and traffic flowing smoothly.  Remember, you are in the right when walking left!
