Second-year Medicine Student Presents at International Conference

Second-year medicine student Tarik Whitham presented on “Lung Cancer Screening Utilization Rate Varies Based on Patient, Provider and Hospital Factors” at the International Thoracic Surgical Oncology Summit held in New York City in September.

Whitham was invited by the American Association of Thoracic Surgery to attend the symposium as an invited speaker and featured presenter. The only student invited to present, Whitham also had the opportunity to sit on a panel to discuss lung cancer screening and detection at the end of the session.

“I've been interested in cardiothoracic surgery for a long time,” said Whitham. “I spent my summer with the University of Cincinnati in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and began working on this project to determine utilization rate of lung cancer screening and factors that are affecting it.”
