If you have stopped and scratched your head while viewing the ever-changing mural in the NEW Center over the past few months, chances are, you’re not alone.
Chris Mettee, director of auxiliary services for conference services, says the original thought behind the mural was to add an artistic element to what was formerly a dull, neutral space.
“Without having any real point of reference, just some conceptual ideas, I reached out to the artist and the project expanded from there. I asked if they could recreate some of the ideas from different paintings throughout the NEW Center,” Mettee explains.
The mural is finally complete – seven versions later. “There was a lot of back and forth trying to find the right mix. Plus, you can’t really tell an artist how to do their job,” says Mettee.
For now, the mural stands as is, but Mettee does encourage students interested in creating other artwork throughout campus to contact him at cmettee@neomed.edu .
