Student elected to leadership role with AAMC OSR

Congratulations to third-year medical student Adithya Sreenivas, who was recently elected as a regional delegate for the Central Region of the AAMC Organization of Student Representatives. The Central Region includes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin

The OSR represents medical students nationwide and provides an active role in advancing the AAMC mission to improve the nation’s health.

Sreenivas shared his thoughts on the opportunity with The Pulse.

How did your election come about? What led you to pursue the opportunity?

A few months ago (November 2025), I received an email informing me that applications for elections for AAMC OSR delegate positions are open. I was interested in becoming more involved with AAMC OSR this year, specifically by working with the regional and national committees to help fulfill the OSR mission of uniting and sharing the voice of medical students from the central region and helping with the growth of academic medicine. I was therefore highly motivated to apply as a candidate for the delegate position. Last year, during my M2 year, I helped connect NEOMED students with local program directors by organizing a program director panel series. This year, I wanted to increase my involvement in this organization, and I thought this would be a great opportunity.

What will you do as regional delegate?

My main responsibilities as the regional delegate include addressing any student-specific issues that may arise from various medical schools in the central region, in addition to distributing information to individual OSR members about any national changes regarding AAMC or OSR. Furthermore, regional delegates are expected to work with the other regional and national committees to initiate and complete projects, in addition to attending the Annual and Regional meetings for OSR.

How will this experience enhance your medical education?

I'm looking forward to being more involved with the AAMC OSR and expanding my skills in communication and student leadership. Also, as a future resident and aspiring physician, combining clinical practice with academic medicine is one of my interests, and this opportunity as OSR regional delegate, I believe, is a step closer to my professional goal.

Anything else you would like to add?

By serving as the regional liaison, I aspire to help foster the communication between regional and national OSR and help cultivate a shared sense of belonging among current medical students and aspiring physicians.
