Congratulations to the Student-Run Free Clinic at NEOMED, recognized by the National Association of Free Clinics with an NAFC 2022 Standards Gold Rating for quality. In the past, this quality recognition has been made to fewer than 400 clinics nationally, says Sanjay Jinka, a rising third-year student in the College of Medicine, the student CEO of the Free Clinic and a student representative on the NEOMED Board of Trustees.
The Washington, D.C.-based National Association of Free Clinics is a national coalition of hospital CEOs, administrators and physician leaders.
The Student-Run Free Clinic is open Saturdays from 8:30 a.m.-noon to provide high-quality, non-emergent, no-cost health care to the medically underserved residents of Northeast Ohio. It offers primary care services, chronic disease management, regular routine care, basic labs, medication prescriptions and therapy management.
NEOMED College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy students aren’t the only ones who volunteer for the Clinic, which is located on the NEOMED campus at 4209 St. Rt. 44, Rootstown, Ohio. Nursing students and physician assistant (PA) students from additional higher learning institutions are being brought on board, too. Resident physicians, attending physicians, medical specialists, pharmacists and behavioral health specialists serve as mentors.
