Students give back at Sight for All United’s Eye Ball

On Saturday, Nov. 9, a group of passionate NEOMED students and the Ophthalmology Interest Group/Students for Sight volunteered their time to support Sight for All United’s annual Eye Ball of the Mahoning Valley. The gala, held at Eastwood Event Center in Niles, Ohio, celebrated Sight for All United’s mission to provide accessible eye care and fight preventable blindness in our region.

The students assisted with event logistics, including guest registration, coat checking, ushering and running the photo booth. Their presence underscored the importance of cultivating a commitment to community service among future physicians.

The student volunteers included:

  • Clara Britton, M2
  • Brigid Devine, M2
    Loga Iyer, M2
  • Kayla Johnson, M2
    Alexie Kindy, M2
  • Jessica Lee, M3
    Lindsey Nichols, M1
  • Madalyn Venard, M2

Sight for All United addresses eye care disparities in our local region by providing free eye exams and financial assistance for medical and surgical interventions to underserved populations. Events such as the Eye Ball are crucial for raising funds to maintain these programs.

The evening was themed “Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass,” and featured dinner, live entertainment, live and silent auctions, and inspiring testimonials from individuals whose lives have been transformed by Sight for All United. The organization highlighted its ongoing projects, future plans and successes thanks to the generosity of its donors.

NEOMED’s Ophthalmology Interest Group/Students for Sight is excited to sustain and grow its partnership with Sight for All United. In addition to continuing to support events like the Eye Ball, the group plans to collaborate with Sight for All United to expand its vision screening efforts.
