Looking to take on additional leadership at NEOMED? Are you hoping to add co-curricular involvement to your resume?

Complete this application form to participate in the election or selection processes associated with various roles available. Please note that you should complete this form based on your current class (i.e., M1 means Class of 2027, P2 means Class of 2026, etc.). Applications will close Sunday, May 12 at 11:55 p.m.

If you'd like to apply for more than one position, please complete the form for each role. You do not need to upload a CV more than once, but you may want to tailor your essay response to the individual role, or select a different college if your are dual-enrolled and want to pursue a different seat, etc. Essay responses will be made available on the ballot for elected positions. CVs/resumes, as well as essays, will be shared with selection committees for selected positions.


NEOMED Student Councils & Committees: Descriptions and Responsibilities

NEOMED Student Council (NSC)
Description: The NEOMED Student Council represents the student body and advocates for their well-being. They determine how student fee dollars are allocated towards student organizations, student research funding and other student-focused activities. They often voice the concerns of students and seek positive change on NEOMED’s campus.
Obligations: Attend meetings on the evening of the first Wednesday of the month, which usually last 2 to 3.5 hours.  Vote on student organization funding decisions.  Co-run class meetings.
Process: Election
New members are added in: Fall and Spring of first year, unless vacancies occur

Student Conduct Council
Description: The Student Conduct Council educates and advocates for the student body regarding the importance of upholding ethical values while monitoring their own professional integrity. This will occur through discussion with elected student and faculty members within all colleges of NEOMED and through participation in CAPP and the Student Conduct Hearing Board as appointed student representatives
Obligations: Attend monthly PM meetings which usually last about 1.5 hours. Co-run class meetings. Sit on CAPP or Student Conduct Hearing Board throughout 3rd and 4th year and assist with authoring the Class Oath during year 4.

Student Curriculum Council
Description: The Student Curriculum Council serves to represent the student classes as voting members of the curriculum committees. The council also arranges for the selection of student representatives for each course in the curriculum to enable students and faculty course directors to collaborate in the continuous improvement of the curriculum.
Obligations: Attend monthly PM meetings and serve as liaison between respective college and course directors.

Diversity Council
Description: The University Diversity Council is strongly committed to promoting diversity, inclusivity and equity throughout our NEOMED community.  The UDC serves as a vital resource for future and current students and employees by establishing a diverse and welcoming community and enriching our educational, research and service initiatives. The UDC comprises faculty, staff and students representing various areas of campus.
Obligations: 75 min lunch time mtgs every other month; help w/multicultural festival

Mental Health Committee
Description: The UMHC serves to advance mental wellness and self-care for NEOMED students, faculty, and staff by adopting a comprehensive approach to mental health promotion and suicide prevention.  Target strategies include reducing the stigma of mental illness, increasing help-seeking behavior and encouraging a culture of mutual concern for one another.  To achieve these goals, the Committee 1) recommends resources regarding mental health and suicide prevention, 2) provides training and promotes emotional wellness and support for the campus and greater community.
Obligations: Attend monthly 1.5-hour meetings (18 hours total)

University Awards & Scholarships Committee
Description: University Scholarship & Award Committee - The USAC functions as an advisory group to the Office of Financial Aid on issues, policies and concerns related to all aspects of student financial aid, as needed. The Committee: 1) reviews and recommends policy for the administration of all Financial Aid programs within the guidelines of Federal and State laws, and University policies; 2) periodically reviews Financial Aid programs for the purpose of recommending changes, additions or program improvements; 3) assists with the identification and selection of scholarship/award recipients as needed; 4) serves as the vetting and/or review body for student appeals involving decisions of Financial Aid.
Obligations: Attend bi-monthly 2-hour meetings (12 hours total)

Medicine Admissions Committee
Description: The committee is tasked with recruiting, evaluating and admitting a competent class of future physicians ready to begin the next phase of their professional careers. This includes, if time allows, reading and rating files of candidates (1-1.5 hours per week from November to February).  The M-1 representative does not vote when a motion is made, however their input is valued in any and all discussions. When student representatives matriculate to M-2, they become voting members.
Obligations: Attend monthly meetings, often 3 hours long. 3rd Wednesday of each month. Typically, via Zoom.

Pharmacy Admissions Committee
Description: The committee is tasked with recruiting, evaluating and admitting a competent class of future pharmacists ready to begin the next phase of their professional careers.
Obligations: Meetings typically occur twice a month from 12pm to 12:30pm via Zoom, but may occur more frequently depending on the admissions landscape.

Wellness Committee
Description: The Wellness Committee includes both students and staff and focuses on ensuring that students are thriving in holistic areas of wellness such as mental, physical, social, financial and beyond! This committee discusses current challenges faced by students, explores solutions, and engages in wellness-related activities on campus to support students.
Obligations: Attend monthly lunchtime meetings and author one wellness-related article in the Pulse each year.

Student Government  Advocacy Council
Description: The purpose of the council is to engage students in effectively advocating for NEOMED and the policies that affect Higher Education.  By participating in this council, you will learn the state budget process and how to effectively advocate for funding or changes in legislation.  You will experience interacting with legislators and will have opportunities to engage with NEOMED alumni participating through the Alumni Government Affairs Council.  This will be a lifelong skill that you will be able to take with you throughout your career.
Obligations:

  • Monthly meetings (may be via Zoom/Teams) Usually Fridays from noon-1:30pm
  • Educated on the biennial state budget process and how to effectively advocate
  • Educated on affecting policy
  • Represent NEOMED/Council with Elected Officials on state visits or when they come to NEOMED
  • Maintain Database on Elected Officials and Educational/Occupational Background for IUC
  • Attend IUC Advocacy Day at the Capital (usually overnight trip in April-Expenses Reimbursed)
  • Participate in e-mail campaign with legislators
  • Interact/Represent with the Alumni Government Affairs Advocacy Council
  • 2 year term

AAMC Organization of Student Representatives (OSR)
Description: The Organization of Student Representatives (OSR) represents medical students nationwide and provides an active role in advancing the AAMC mission to improve the nation’s health. The Organization of Student Representatives (OSR) fulfills a unique role among medical student organizations. As part of the AAMC, it provides all United States M.D. medical students with a voice in the nation's largest association dedicated solely to the advancement of academic medicine. The OSR provides medical students with an active role in achieving AAMC's mission to improve the nation's health through the advancement of academic medicine. Additionally, the OSR seeks to ensure that students actively participate in directing their educations, preserving their rights, and delineating their professional responsibilities. To this end, the OSR provides medical students with a voice in academic medicine at a national level and strives to foster student involvement and awareness in this arena at a local level.
Obligations:

  • The role of OSR representatives is to monitor activities at their institutions, represent student opinions to the OSR Administrative Board (Ad Board), and relay national OSR and AAMC priorities to the students and staff of their institutions.
  • Selection occurs in the fall of M1 year. Term lasts from M1 year, until graduation.
  • During M1-M3 years, students serve as an OSR alternate representative. During M4 year, student serves as the OSR primary representative, representing NEOMED at the AAMC Annual Spring Meeting.

Oath Committee
Description: Each graduating class of NEOMED’s College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy recites a unique oath, crafted by their own peers, at their graduation ceremony. This committee is responsible for creating an oath that reflects the values of the class and addresses the modern goals and challenges of the field's graduates will be entering.
Obligations: Meet as needed to create an oath. Possibly recite/record the oath for respective graduation ceremony.

College of Pharmacy Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (COP DEI)
Description: The purpose of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee is to a) support the formal position, mission, and vision developed by the COP to advance diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in all facets of the college;  b) establish and monitor initiatives for the recruitment, retention, and promotion of diverse students, faculty, staff in alignment with the both COP and University strategic plans, c) identify best practices for incorporating DEI in didactic and experiential curriculum, student advising, co-curricular activities, research, alumni/community relations, and COP policy.
Obligations: Meetings typically occur once a month for 1 hour. Attendance via Zoom is offered.
