The Office of Financial Aid announces the launch of the scholarship in memory of Jay A. Gershen

The Dr. Jay A. Gershen, D.D.S., Ph.D., Scholarship

Deadline: Sept. 2, 2021

The Office of Financial Aid would like to announce the launch of the Dr. Jay A. Gershen, D.D.S., Ph.D., Scholarship application cycle for the 2021-2022 academic year. A total of three $1,000 scholarships will be given in the 2021-2022 academic year, one from each of the three NEOMED colleges.

Dr. Jay A. Gershen, D.D.S., Ph.D., NEOMED’s sixth president, believed health care is a right, not a privilege, and that everyone should have access to health care, regardless of means. He also believed education is the path to individual prosperity and economic vitality. Dr. Gershen worked hard to diversify the NEOMED student body, and his signature initiative was “Education for Service,” an innovative program focused on diversifying Northeast Ohio’s health care workforce while reducing student indebtedness and providing health care to underserved urban and rural communities. Visit the website to learn more about the life of Dr. Gershen.

Applications will be reviewed by a committee who will make recommendations to the University Scholarship and Awards Committee. Scholars will be named by the end of September 2021 and will be asked to attend an event held the evening of Oct. 4, or be available to record a message of thanks to be played during the event.

Eligibility requirements:

  • All NEOMED students who are underrepresented minorities.

Along with completing the application, students will be asked to answer two essay questions. Please review the application for the essay prompts and directions on submitting your application. We highly encourage all eligible students to apply and wish you the best of luck with your application. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Office of Financial Aid with any questions finaid@neomed.edu.
