The Year of the Dragon arrives
On Monday, Feb. 19, NEOMED's Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA) hosted a Lunar New Year celebration for the Year of the Blue Dragon.
The student leaders of APAMSA invited the NEOMED community to celebrate and enjoy the event, which included karaoke, a variety of Asian food and appetizers, goodie bags and red envelopes. Ming’s boba tea options included Brown Sugar, Passionfruit Mango, and Lychee.
Lunar New Year traditions have both similarities and differences across countries and cultures in Asia; one of the more common traditions includes giving envelopes containing money to family and friends for good luck. Individuals who had the chance to donate money to Asian Services in Action (ASIA) received red envelopes themselves. Although there was no money in these envelopes, APAMSA and participants had the chance to practice the same culture of sharing and generosity.
APAMSA looks forward to hosting the event next year and hopes to encourage the community to participate in and enjoy the culture. Like the other student organizations on campus, APAMSA seeks to contribute to the culture at NEOMED and beyond through service and sharing.
