Happy new year, from The Pulse!

As 2025 begins, we’re taking look back at the top stories of 2024. These stories exemplify the growth of the University, our commitment to providing an exceptional student experience and the importance of partnership.

Here are some of the top stories from The Pulse for 2024:

 

THE BITONTE COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY EARNS INITIAL ACCREDITATION

In August 2024, NEOMED was notified that the Bitonte College of Dentistry had earned initial accreditation by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). The decision allowed NEOMED to move forward offering a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree program. The University immediately began to recruit students for enrollment in the Fall of 2025.

THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE WELCOMES THE LARGEST CLASS IN ITS HISTORY

A record 192 new students were admitted into the College of Medicine in 2024. The students in the Class of 2028 celebrated their White Coat ceremony on Friday, July 12, 2024. Of the incoming class, 82% of the students are from Ohio.

U.S. NEWS AND WORLD REPORT RANKS NEOMED AMONG THE TOP 25 FOR DIVERSITY

NEOMED ranked among the Top 25 “Most Diverse Medical Schools” in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report in its 2024 Best Medical Schools publication, released in July 2024. Furthermore, NEOMED was ranked as the second-most diverse medical school in Ohio and was recognized among the U.S. News' Best Graduate Schools.

The report showed an improvement in diversity for NEOMED’s College of Medicine, placing it at #23 in the nation, compared to the 2023 ranking of #41 for the same category.

NEOMED PARTNERS WITH THE CLEVELAND BROWNS TO EXPAND HEALTH CARE EDUCATION IMPACT 

NEOMED and the Cleveland Browns announced a partnership, beginning with the 2024 season that kicked off in September. This strategic alliance will further develop NEOMED’s capacity to address public health issues facing Northeast Ohio communities through education and advocacy. As part of the partnership, NEOMED will be prominently featured at Huntington Bank Field, as well as on the NFL team’s website, social media and gameday media network. NEOMED students will benefit from participation in exclusive events to engage with the Browns medical staff and the organization’s “Browns Give Back” community initiative.

NEOMED AFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR MILITARY STUDENTS WITH PURPLE STAR MILITARY LOUNGE, PATHWAY FOR ACADEMY GRADUATES

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the official opening of the Purple Star Military Lounge during the inaugural Celebration of Military Service on Nov. 4, 2024. The newly renovated space allows military-connected students to enjoy a private space and interact with other service members and veterans. The name is in recognition of NEOMED being named a Collegiate Purple Star Award institution in 2023 for its support of military-connected students and families. During the ceremony, Forrest Faison, M.D., Sc.D. (hon), FAAP, senior vice president and provost at NEOMED and 38th Surgeon General of the U.S. Navy, announced the creation of a partnership with the three military academies, providing a pathway for their graduates to NEOMED’s College of Medicine.

MEDIC COLLISION SPACE OPENS

The Medical Design Innovation Center (MEDIC) at NEOMED provides a dynamic space for students to collaborate and explore innovative health care concepts. Thanks to a generous philanthropic donation from The Timken Foundation, the newly renovated Collision Space, which opened in Fall 2024, enables students and groups to gather with flexible seating, whiteboards and monitors for both PC and video collaboration.

FIRST UH-NEOMED FACULTY AND STUDENT SCHOLARS RECOGNIZED

Six students and 30 faculty members were honored as University Hospitals-NEOMED Faculty and Student Scholars during a special presentation in March 2024. The honorees are recognized for their outstanding achievements and their commitment to representing the core values of both UH and NEOMED.
