Transitions in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

The College of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Edward Ferris, M.D., FACOG, as interim chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Ferris is an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at NEOMED and has been practicing in Northeast Ohio for over 25 years. He is currently the Medical Director for the Women's Health Institute and the Vivian E. von Gruenigen M.D. Endowed Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Summa Health.

Dr. Ferris received his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Summa Health.

Dr. Ferris takes on this role from Prabhcharan Gill, M.D., FRCOG (UK), FACOG, professor of obstetrics and gynecology, who served as chair of the department from 2017 until this past July.

Dr. Gill first came to NEOMED (then NEOUCOM) in 1995 as Medical Student Senior Year Elective Program Advisor. In his over 25 years of service, he has held multiple roles including Clinical Experiential Director for Ob/Gyn, founder and activity director of Obstetrics and Gynecology Resident Research Day and has served as a member of the Institutional Review Board, Obstetrics and Gynecology Council and the M4 Curriculum committee.

Dr. Gill has been recognized for unparalleled work as a teacher and mentor to students. He has received five national excellence in teaching awards and is a Fellow at the Master level of the NEOMED Master Teacher Guild. Dr. Gill was inducted as a member of the NEOMED chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
