Turning 26 and losing insurance coverage?

A MESSAGE FROM STUDENT SERVICES/CREDENTIALING:

All NEOMED students must have medical insurance.

If you are turning 26 and losing insurance coverage on your parent's plan, be sure to review the new website on Student Medical Insurance for Qualifying Life Events (QLE)!

Qualifying Life Event | Student Services | NEOMED

What is a QLE?  It is a change in your situation — like getting married, having a baby or losing health coverage — that can make you eligible for a Special Enrollment Period, allowing you to enroll in health insurance outside the annual Open Enrollment Period.

To enroll in the NEOMED-provided medical insurance plan, please complete the following steps:

  • Prior to losing coverage, request a Letter of Separation from your current provider that states you are losing coverage including the date of loss. We recommend you request the letter no less than 30 days before loss of coverage.
  • Complete the Insurance Application form.
  • Email the Letter of Separation and Application form to student@haylor.com (HFC is NEOMED’s insurance broker)
  • HFC will email you the pro-rated cost to enroll. If you accept the cost and want to enroll,
  • Respond via email to HFC with your agreement to enroll and HFC will notify NEOMED.
  • NEOMED Bursar will bill you for the added coverage premium.
  • HFC will enroll you in the medical insurance plan and send your Insurance ID card.
  • If you choose not to accept enrollment, you must have other insurance and will be held responsible for maintaining medical insurance coverage throughout your enrollment in NEOMED.

For more information about a QLE, contact Harlena Duvall at hduvall@neomed.edu or 330.325.6706.
