University Hospitals Hearing Research Center at NEOMED Symposium

On Friday May 10, the University Hospitals Hearing Research Center at Northeast Ohio Medical University (UH HRC at NEOMED) held its inaugural symposium.

The symposium was comprised of researchers from NEOMED as well as clinicians and researchers from University Hospitals. In addition, trainees from both institutions were included to gain valuable insights and experience. The day consisted of faculty/clinician presentations and group discussions to find common ground and spark ideas for future research collaborations. Many ideas were generated, and working groups are now planned to further develop collaborations. One idea is to study why cochlear implants, which can restore hearing in both children and older adults, work better for some people than for others.

Next summer, be on the lookout for NEOMED to host the 10th Midwest Auditory Research Conference (MARC) – an event that coincides with the 20th anniversary of NEOMED’s Hearing Research Group
