NEOvations Pharmacy Services is offering vaccine clinics for NEOMED faculty, staff and their dependents to receive the shingles, pneumonia and Tdap vaccines.
The Shingrix shingles vaccine is recommended for adults aged 50 and older, including those who had shingles in the past, received Zostavax in the past or have certain health conditions. A second dose is recommended 2 to 6 months after the first dose. Shingrix provides more than 90% protection against shingles and postherpetic neuralgia.
Prevnar 20 pneumococcal vaccine is recommended for adults aged 65 and older and anyone 19 or older with certain chronic conditions. The vaccine provides lasting protection against 20 strains of bacteria that cause pneumococcal pneumonia.
The “Tdap” vaccine protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis. Adults who have never had a Tdap should get a dose. Adults should receive boosters doses every 10 years.
