Video and Transcript from the Aug. 29 Campus Update

President John Langell shared updates on a wide range of topics during the Campus Update Aug. 29 to faculty and staff gathered in Meshel Hall and on Zoom.

A few highlights:

  • The Higher Learning Commission site team will be at NEOMED Sept. 12-13. All faculty and staff are encouraged to read the Assurance Argument.
  • Our Moody’s bond rating improved from a Baa2 to Baa1, which has enabled the University to negotiate lower interest rates.
  • Campus rejuvenation work is well underway, with the South Corridor project nearing completion, an Innovation Café moving forward, and a space committee reviewing next steps.
  • The student-led Journal of Medical Sciences is now available online.

Dr. Langell invited questions from the audience. Following are responses to questions received online:

I've noticed that the student administrative offices are scattered throughout the campus, some in in hard-to-find places. Yet, college specific departments hold more visible locations and are oftentimes unoccupied throughout the week. Are there any thoughts to reorganizing the location of offices so that central services have a better presence on campus?

The Master Space Workgroup was formed in 2021 to create a master plan for use of NEOMED land and buildings to enhance the exceptional experience for students, faculty, staff, alumni, partners, donors, and community members. The Workgroup completed the review and analysis of academic space requirements and will next analyze co-curricular and administrative space needs to draft a master space plan for the campus. We appreciate the question as this is within the scope of the work we are doing and this will be reviewed by the Workgroup.

Is it possible to share a version of the assurance document with the ability to use the embedded links to see the attached artifacts?

Unfortunately, no. At this time, the Higher Learning Commission site team are the only individuals that have access to the evidence files.
