Whale Watching: Student Organizations

NEOMED students get together to solve medical mysteries, read to kids, sing to strangers, get fit, or just eat ice cream. (You can’t be productive all the time!) Here’s a sample of what NEOMED has to offer.

Musician's in Medicine

MIM members present Christmas concerts, regale unwitting recipients with Song-a-Grams at Valentine’s Day and attend events such as “Musical Genius and Psychiatric Illness,’’ a lecture-demonstration by nationally acclaimed pianist-psychiatrist Richard Kogan, M.D.

C2C brings together faculty and medical students to provide community outreach, for example, by reading to patients at Akron Children’s Hospital.

I Love Ice Cream Club

A love of ice cream is all one needs to be a part of this group. Enough said.

Clinical Detectives

Sherlock Holmes fans can put on their deerstalkers and try their hand at solving medical mysteries. With the help of student adviser Paul Lecat, M.D., the club presents mysteries such as “An Endocrine Enigma."

Walking Whale Barbell Club

For all of us who can use repeated reminders to keep that long-ago New Year’s resolution to get fi t, WWBC is just the club. With the goal of becoming healthier and stronger by lifting weights in a stress-free environment, the WWBC meets in the Sequoia Wellness Center on campus.
