Are these the scariest places on campus?
What are those sinister sounds you heard around campus? It could be ghosts or goblins, or a giant whale skeleton creeping down the halls. Or maybe you’re hearing the echoes of rowdy lab assistants from years long gone.
For those who stick around, NEOMED can be frightening at night. We went on a search and found some of the scariest spots on campus.
1. Ambulocetus natans
The skeleton of a walking whale hangs displayed in E building. If you walk the building at night, the atmosphere inside the building is eerie, as the skeleton’s massive bones cast long, ghostly shadows. Although a replica, is it possible that this skeleton holds the terror of the animal that lived nearly 50 million years ago? Is it possible that Nate comes alive at night and walks the halls? Are we living in a real-life Night at the Museum situation?
2. The long, dark hallways behind locked doors
We’re sure you’ve seen the random doors around campus marked “Services” that are always locked. Only maintenance staff are allowed beyond these doors, and it’s no wonder why. Mysterious cold spots, strange odors (hopefully not gas leaks) and ghostly whispers have been reported by those who dare to enter.
3. The Book Depository
Late at night, the hushed atmosphere is broken by the soft, echoing footsteps in the Book Depository that lives in a building on the south side of campus.
Who knows what lurks at the end of that hallway. We don’t, and we sure don’t want to find out!
Whether these tales were true or mere exaggerations born from the stresses of medical education, one this is clear: NEOMED’s campus holds a captivating mystique. But despite the eerie tales, NEOMED’s students continue their pursuit of medical knowledge. They’ve learned to coexist with the otherworldly inhabitants of their campus, seeking solace in the knowledge that even in the world of the living, sometimes the unexplained could be their greatest teacher.
