APAMSA celebrates community and culture at NEOMED’s Lunar New Year event

Last year, the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association at NEOMED hosted a Lunar New Year celebration that brought together students, faculty and staff for an evening centered on cultural appreciation and community connection. The event featured a variety of food, music and cultural performances that reflected the diversity of Asian traditions and created a welcoming space for all members of the community to gather and celebrate. Attendance exceeded expectations, and the event eventually sold out, highlighting the strong interest in cultural celebrations and inclusive campus events.
Building on last year’s success, APAMSA is thrilled to announce the return of its Lunar New Year event on Friday, Jan. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the NEW Center Ballroom. In response to last year’s overwhelming turnout, the move to the ballroom provides a larger and more accessible space, ensuring that more members of the NEOMED community can participate in this annual celebration.
This year marks the Year of the Horse, a symbol often associated with energy, resilience and progress. These themes align closely with the significance of Lunar New Year as well as the values upheld by the NEOMED community. Attendees can once again look forward to cultural Asian cuisine, engaging performances and music that represents a wide range of Asian culture.
APAMSA encourages attendees to wear cultural Asian attire to celebrate culture and identity. By creating a space where cultural expression is welcomed and valued, the event reflects APAMSA’s mission to support, advocate for and celebrate Asian Pacific American students while promoting cultural awareness, inclusivity and community engagement across campus.
Ticket sales will begin the week of December 22nd, and community members are encouraged to purchase early. APAMSA warmly invites all NEOMED students, faculty and staff to attend this year’s Lunar New Year celebration and take part in an evening that highlights our shared community at NEOMED as we welcome the Year of the Horse together.
