On a daylong event that features the renowned Harvard professor, activist and author Cornel West, Ph.D., NEOMED will be well represented at the University of Akron Black Male Summit 2021.
Andre Burton, J.D., vice president for Human Resources and Diversity, and William Demas, M.D., professor and chair of the Department of Radiology, are among the presenters and session moderators for the event being held virtually Tuesday, March 30, from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Four NEOMED students are the panelists for a session titled Pre-Health: Rising Up to Health Through Health Fields. They are: First-year College of Medicine student Victor Akinditan; second-year College of Medicine student Timilehin (“Tim) Ogunjana; third-year College of Pharmacy student Ikenna Ogwuebu; and fourth-year College of Medicine student Jared Cheatham.
Dr. West, known for books such as Race Matters, will be the keynote speaker. The theme of this year’s daylong event is “Black Males Rising to the Occasion.”
The Summit is described as “a national platform for best practices and innovative strategies focusing on cradle-to-career success for African-American males with a robust focus on improving access, educational opportunities, improving retention, and leveraging networks in education, business and beyond.”
The Black Male Summit is free and open to the public. Seating for this virtual event is limited and registration is encouraged.
