COM Class of 2027: Residency personal statement and CV review

College of Medicine Class of 2027: The first draft of your residency personal statement and your updated NEOMED CV are due Monday, July 6, 2026.
This spring, Writing Center Specialist Brian Harrell presented at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Together We Lead Conference in Orlando on NEOMED's approach to supporting medical students in developing their residency personal statements. The response was overwhelming. Since that presentation, several medical schools and students have reached out to learn more about how NEOMED prepares students for the residency application process.
According to Harrell, "I can say this with complete confidence: NEOMED has one of the strongest support systems in the country when it comes to helping students develop their personal statements and CVs."
That support extends well beyond the Writing Center and fourth year. It begins during the M1 year and continues through faculty mentorship, career advising, student affairs, clinical experiences and the many opportunities students have to build their professional stories throughout medical school. It also extends to pharmacy, dentistry and graduate students.
The personal statement and CV review process is one part of that larger support system. Students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to receive feedback early and allow ample time for revision before application season begins.
In addition to the personal statement, students can submit an updated NEOMED CV, as the information contained in the CV will serve as the foundation for developing the 10 Experiences section of the residency application.
Submit your materials by July 6 using one of the following methods:
- Campus Groups Workflow: https://cglink.me/2oJ/s168
- Email Attachment: writingcenter@neomed.edu
Please note that this review process is asynchronous. Submission does not require an in-person meeting. Students who would like individualized guidance are welcome to schedule an appointment with Brook Wyers or Brian Harrell to discuss their personal statement, CV, specialty selection or overall residency application strategy.
