Dr. Jeannette South-Paul and her team of Audrey J. Murrell, Taunya Tinsley and Vivette Payne will host a virtual diversity, equity and inclusion training for everyone from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31. This will be the first of a two-part series.
Dr. South-Paul and her team will:
- review the demographic shifts occurring in higher education,
- discuss the role culture plays in working together and in our clinical roles,
- discuss the special challenges of diversity, equity and inclusion in health sciences education, and
- reveal why educational institutions have made diversity, equity and inclusion a high priority for organizational effectiveness.
Dr. South-Paul is chair of the department of family medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where she is the first woman and the first African-American to serve as the permanent chair of a department at the School of Medicine, and one of a small number of African-American chairs in medical schools nationwide.
