Dr. Michael Forbes is the keynote speaker for NEOvations Bench to Bedside

Michael Forbes, M.D., FAAP, FCCM, of Akron Children's Hospital, will present the keynote address during the 2026 NEOvations Bench to Bedside showcase.

The showcase will take place from 3:30-7 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in the NEW Center Ballroom at NEOMED. The event is free and open to all.

ABOUT MICHAEL FORBES, M.D.

Dr. Forbes is chief academic officer, holds the William H. & Rebecca D. Considine Chair of Pediatric Research, and is the director of the Rebecca D Considine Research Institute at Akron Children’s Hospital. He was recently named Distinguished University Professor by the Board of Trustees of NEOMED. It is the University’s highest honor conferred by the Board and only the fourth such award in its 50-year history. He remains a professor of pediatrics in the College of Medicine at NEOMED. 

Dr. Forbes is a trained pediatric and adolescent intensivist, researcher and physician executive. He ended his clinical practice after 25 years in December 2022. A fierce advocate for holistic care delivery in a patient centered, high quality system, he has dedicated his career to improving healthcare through discovery and developing innovative educational opportunities in medical education for the next generation. 

He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh, then his doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Intrigued by pediatrics, he went on to complete his residency and was appointed chief resident at the Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). He completed a fellowship in critical care medicine at the Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital of the UPMC followed by acceptance into the Mid-Career Investigator program with the National Institutes of Health Pediatric Critical Care & Trauma Scientist Development Program. In 2013 he completed the National Institutes of Health/National Library of Medicine’s Biomedical Informatics and Data Science Research Training Programs at Woods Hole in Massachusetts. In 2022, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Pittsburgh African American Alumni Association.
